Hello Local 291 Members

We have completed another three Bargaining Days in February and have scheduled two more for March 23rd  and 24th. Your undying support and encouragement makes this easier for us to do. Thank you for that!!!

Just a reminder that we cannot discuss specifics of the Bargaining process. It is not that we are trying to be secretive. We hold the positions you elected us for and our mandated direction very seriously and as such fulfill these duties with integrity. Please know that we use your mandate as our touch stone for the decisions we make at the table. Ultimately you all vote whether you agree or send us back to the table at the end.

Thank you for your messages of support, they really do keep us going and and also holding where we need to. Mark down on your calendars Monday March 23rd and Tuesday March 24th as Bargaining Day. If you feel emotionally safe enough in your environment to do so, wear blue anyway you can!!! We are in this together and together we are strong.

In solidarity,
Your Bargaining Team

Greetings Local 291 Members!!!

Your elected Bargaining team has just finished three more days across the table with management.  It makes it so much easier to do knowing the support we have from all of you--and for that--thank you once again!!!

The Bargaining Mobilizers are in the process of delivering OPSEU Local 291 swag to each member so you can show your support in the workplace.  We understand if you prefer to take it home but we hope you'll join with your 349 comrades in wearing the tattoos and badge reel and displaying the mousepad on your desk.  We can do what we do only because of each and every one of you giving us the task and privilege to voice your demands at the table.  Again, your texts and emails received while we bargain are both uplifting and encouraging--please keep them coming.

We have two more days scheduled with Management in February thus far (10th & 11th)--keep the faith, send us pictures of your OPSEU tattoos on February 10th and 11th and Go Team Blue!!!

In Solidarity,

Your Bargaining Team

Hello Local 291 Members

Wow, while we were bargaining, you outdid yourselves behind the scene!!!!  We chuckled over the array of creativity displayed in OPSEU blue that came our way at the table.  We saw blue socks, blue scarves, blue eyes with blue glasses, blue rings, blue jeans and even blue suede shoes!  And blue fingernails galore; some with a full set of ten fingers and others donning one fingernail discreetly painted OPSEU blue.  (check out Facebook and here to see some of your coworkers who gave permission to post them--if you are contemplating sending a pic but feel shy about it, know you don’t have to show your face).

We have finished three more days of bargaining and will reconvene in the new year with dates for January 22, 24 & 27 and February 10 & 11.  A member queried why bargaining takes more than a few days.  Our response is that Local 291 is worth putting in the time and effort with the end goal to hold gains we have made in the past and endeavour to navigate improvements in a hostile political environment. We believe that directly or indirectly every member provides to our community--for the employer--a quality, needed service for vulnerable individuals and their families.  Our respective education, training, skills and abilities enable us to provide the required compassion, professionalism, sensitivity and responsibility to the service.  Such dedication and focus may claim an emotional, physical and/or mental impact over time.  Your elected bargaining team is committed to taking the time and effort to work toward achieving a collective agreement and working conditions that support, compensate and provide acknowledgment that mirrors the responsibility extended by our members. An injury to one is an injury to us all.

Lastly, over this festive season, be it Christmas, Kwanzaa, Chanukah, Winter Solstice, and all other celebrations your bargaining team wishes you and yours peace, safety, happiness and camaraderie with one another.

In Solidarity,

Greetings Local 291 Members!!!!!!

First and foremost, THANK YOU for all of your support and encouragement while we have been bargaining - it has been a source of inspiration to know that we stand united in getting these demands addressed and your enthusiasm fuels us - the candid snapshots from the workplace and from the privacy of your homes (from those shy folks) wearing blue shirts, pants, scarves, jewelry, nail polish and other funky things has brought levity and smiles to us - also your emails and texts of encouragement keep us connected to you and reminds us that we are not just a few people at this table--we are LOCAL 291 at this table and we stand together for one another!!!!
Our collective skills, knowledge, strength and witness to operations in the workplace as a Local provides invaluable information to us at the table - having you there to answer questions, give examples and provide clarity of your sites and/or circumstances is so very helpful as we move further into the bargaining process.
We have been at the table two days this past week and shared with the employer our Demand Set -- we will continue to bargain again next week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

In Solidarity because An Injury to One is an Injury to All!!!!

Hello OPSEU Local 291 Members

We have news!!!
We have completed our last Bargaining Caucus day. We are pleased with our progress and are confident that we prepared a good strategy for the bargaining table when we meet with management.
Our first day of bargaining with the employer will be Tuesday December 2nd and we have scheduled more days after that: December 3rd, 10th, 11th, and 12th.

We continue to be energized by your encouraging emails, texts, phone calls and personal comments - please keep them coming!

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT BILL 124: Protecting a Sustainable Public Sector for Future Generations Act
The Ford government has passed legislation for public sector employees limiting all monetary increases to a maximum of 1% per year for the next 3 years. This would include wage increases, increases to employee benefits, or anything of monetary value.
Bill 124, the law itself, may be unconstitutional and will be challenged by OPSEU and our Labour partners in court as the collective bargaining process is protected under section 2 of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
You can click here to read more about Bill 124.

Bargaining Team Change:
It is with regret that Piri Roberti has stepped down from the Bargaining Team.  Thank you Piri for your dedication and contribution and we know you'll be mobilizing for us from the sidelines!
We are pleased to welcome our 1st alternate Tracy Dupuis as the newest Bargaining team member.  Tracy brings a valued perspective to round out the team and has already made an "impact".

Thank you for your continued support.

In solidarity,
J. Beckett, J. Chambo, S. Tobin, S. Jenkins-Moss, T. Dupuis

Hello OPSEU Local 291 Members

Your Bargaining team has been in caucus for the past two days working on language to bring forth your bargaining demands.  We are pleased with our progress thus far and are feeling confident that we prepared a good strategy for the bargaining table when we meet with management.  We are so appreciative of your encouraging emails, texts, phone calls and personal comments extended - we are energized by such enthusiasm and positivity for this cause.

While the last two days have been very productive, we are planning one more caucus day to finalize things and have proposed dates to the Employer to initiate bargaining before the end of the year.

Thank you for your continued support.

In solidarity,
Your Bargaining Team
